Scope and Content Note

The Flood-Crain Family papers consists primarily of materials generated and compiled by Elmira Flood Crain and William F. Crain, tracing the history of the family from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century. It also includes letters exchanged by Elmira and Laura Flood discussing the contended Flood family inheritance from 1909 to 1924. They also attempted to create a complete family tree together in order to identify all of the Flood family heirs.

This manuscript collection consists of physical materials. This collection has not been digitized. This collection is open for research use only in the Reading Room. It is not available for request through Interlibrary Loan. Biographical Note

Elmira Flood was born in 1873. She married William F. Crain in 1889 and had six children although only four survived to adulthood. William died in 1920 but Elmira lived on until her death in 1940.

Laura Flood, her older cousin through her grandfather, was, born in 1866. Laura was widowed three times over the course of her lifetime.

Both families lived on farms in rural areas in Arkansas and Missouri.

Abstract

The Flood and Crain families lived in rural Arkansas and Missouri during the early 20th century. The papers contained in this collection include genealogies, personal correspondence, and materials that deal with day-to-day life of the families.

Arrangement

The Flood-Crain Family Papers are arranged in nine folders in one box and large genealogical records in an oversized box.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The collection was transferred to the Dean B. Ellis Library Archives and Special Collections by the Arkansas State University Museum.

Accruals

Further additions to this collection are not expected.
