Historical Note
The Faculty Council, later called the Faculty Senate, of Arkansas State College (later University) was created in the 1950’s with the goal of improving instruction and in-service education, creating academic standards and faculty committees, and determining faculty policies. Terms in the Senate are limited to two years. Only faculty members with academic rank, along with professional librarians, who have been at the University for three years or more may be elected to the Senate. Elections are held during the spring semester. The officers of the Senate include: The President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Immediate Past President.

Abstract
Serving as the legislative body of the Arkansas State University Faculty Association, the Faculty Senate looks after the well-being of the faculty and student body on campus. These records preserve the history of the organization through minutes and supporting documents from various Faculty Senate meetings from 1954-2012.
Arrangement
Folders are arraigned chronologically. Undated materials are found at the beginning of the record.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Records were added to Special Collections before a decision was made to turn them into an archival record.
Accruals
Further additions are expected.
Separated Materials
Duplicates of material found in the collection were discarded.
